Hello all, I am a Scottish metal detectorist and obversely I find coins of various types. I spend a lot of time detecting on beaches and some of the coins I find can be very old. But because these coins have been lying in wet sand for 100's of years the sand and salt water removes any patina! When these coins first surface they look lovely when wet but as soon as they dry out they look dull, I am wondering if there's away to recolour/restore the Patina look to them?
Welcome to CT I have been told time and time again never clean a coin I didn't listen and decided to clean some worse mistake of my life. But I learned a lesson for me now others disagree and clean but I believe you need to no your coins first before attempting to clean them. I would try posting them coins in the ancient Forum thread. And you might be able to get the help you need. IMO Dave
Thank you for the reply Dave, I have been finding coins for 30 years now and know not to clean them! The only action I take with coins is to run under cold water and let them sit in distilled water for a couple of days in order to remove any salts form them. But thsnkyou I will post on the ancient coin part of the forum (Cited from: https://www.cointalk.com/threads/advice-needed-please.312744/)
