@barnaba6 was also generous enough to offer me the change to buy another coin from his collection which I was more than willing to provide a home.

Probus was passing through Lugdunum at Middle to End A.D. 277 on his way to do battle with the Gauls. To celebrate this the mint produced coins with the reverse legend ADVENTVS PROBI AVG from officinae 1 and 4.

    Obv:– IMP C PROBVS • P • F • AVG, Radiate, cuirassed bust right
Rev:– ADVENTVS PROBI AVG, Emperor riding left, right hand raised, left holding sceptre; at foot, captive
Minted in Lugdunum (I in exe) Emission 4 Officina 1. Middle to End A.D. 277
Reference:– Cohen 68. Bastien 184 (10 examples cited). RIC 19 Bust type F

Probus returned though the city again after a succesful campaign End A. D. 277 to Early A.D. 278 and the city produced an issue of coins to celebrate this with more ornate busts. The ADVENTVS PROBI AVG coins were produced at Officinae 1, 3 and 4. I only have a couple of examples from this issue.

Obv:– VIRTVS PROBI AVG, Radiate, helmeted, cuirassed bust left, holding spear and shield
Rev:– ADVENTVS PROBI AVG, Emperor, riding left, right hand raised, left holding sceptre; at foot, captive
    Mint – Lugdunum (//III) Emission 5, Officina 3. End A. D. 277 to Early A.D. 278
Reference:– RIC 64 Bust Type G var (officina), Cohen 69, Bastien 226 (1 ex. same dies)

    3.35 gms. 180 degrees. 22.19 mm

    RI_132wv_img.jpg
Obv:– VIRTVS PRO-BI AVG, Radiate, helmeted, cuirassed bust left, holding spear and shield, decorated with emperor riding past row of soldiers with shields
Rev:– ADVENTVS PROBI AVG, Emperor riding left, right hand raised, left holding sceptre; at foot, captive

Again, I am happy Martin to have helped you expand your impressive collection of Probus coins from the mint of Lugdunum.

The Adventvs Probi Avg reverse from Lugdunum (unlike e.g. from Rome or Siscia) is quite rare, both for emmission 4 as well as for emission 5. So it's quite an achievement to gather as many as 4 coins with this reverse from Lugdunum in collection.

Here are my remaining two coins with this reverse from Lugdunum. Both are from officina "I" but with different busts and obverse legends:

The 4th emission coin is lovely but the 5th Emission coin is great.
