Does anyone here have experience with using acrylic polish to remove scratches and blemishes from coin capsules and proof lenses?
I just read a post somewhere on that exact same thing. Someone suggested WD40 but if you do try that be carefull. That post was to remove the sticky substance from packing tape. Note plastics are basically soft and if using the right substance the plastic can be resmoothed it that is a word. I suggest you try just a piece of cotton ball in water on a location not to obvious and gently rub. The addition of any oils on a plastic is not always a wise thing to try. Although some people have had decent results, that does not mean it will work for you. Note even WD40 may be slightly different in different batches of production and you may get the one that messes up your item. WD40 is not the type of product that is manufactured with excessive quality control as if it were a medical product. I still remember back in the old days when the rear window of convertibles were plastic. People used to clean them with the same rags or cloths as the front and side windows and they would slowly turn yellowish. You never know how a plastic will react with unknown substances.
No! We have a thread running in which WD-40 was used to remove sticky tape, and resulted in making the slab "cloudy". Please guys, keep petroleum products away from plastic!
