Hi I plan to buy acrylic sheets to create a coin display. However I have the doubt if the acrylic could cause any reaction with the coins either short or long term. If anyone knows or has information about it, please guide me on this topic. Thanks in advance!
Acrylic is ok, but it scratches easily, can yellow and gets brittle with age/sun. What kind of display? Why not glass?
High quality acrylic, like Plexiglas, won’t yellow with sunlight for many years. However, polycarbonate is even tougher than acrylic and just as easy to work with. It is a little more expensive. Lexan is a high quality brand. Both will scratch more easily than glass. Neither will react with coin metals. Cal
Thank you very much for all your prompt and cordial replies. I have planned to make couple small [to display 5 coins in each] and not heavy so it is easy to transport. Thanks for the suggestion, I've never worked with that material and I found it very interesting. I think I will choose to use polycarbonate. Thanks for confirming the answer! Also, on this subject I found an extensive and very informative post that also helped me now and certainly it will in the future: https://www.cointalk.com/threads/ev...about-coin-and-currency-storage-almost.51602/
