Completely depends on what you mean by long term. I have had Mercury Dimes and a lot of other coins stored in those 2x2's for well into 30 or so years now and they show no signs of wanting to get out. No toning, darkening, spotting, etc. They are all in those about foot long red cardboard boxes they sell at coin shows for storing 2x2's. Again, I can not gurantee how these coins will look in a few hundred years but if you stay here on this forum I'll get back to you then and let you know the results.
Black Hawk - are you asking about the cardboard 2x2's with a mylar window or the hard case acrylic 2x2's ?
You are referring to the standard cardboard 2x2's with the plastic on the inside that you fold over and tape of staple closed aren't you?
I would suggest using Air-Tite holders instead of the Capital holders. The Capital product is a good one, don't get me wrong. But they are 10 times as expensive as Air-Tites and they don't do as good of job at keeping the outside air away from the coin. But understand, Air-Tites are not truly airtight either.
I only use Capital holders for my gold pieces and older proof sets, otherwise they're too expensive at about $4-5 each.I use the whitman-harris ones for everything else that's not in an album.
Be glad to - but a link to what, a supplier ? JP's Corner is about the best, and the cheapest, I ever found.
Bruce - If you are talking about collector's corner - very bottom of the page, left side. But frankly you'll get better results ordering on-line.
I'll add my 2cents worth about Intercept Shield holders. I HATE them. I bought 10 or so for silver Eagles, and oner I got to work, but the other two I tried would not stay shut. I tried all sorts of repositioning of the collar, but to no avail. So, I left the SEs in the Whitman hard plastic 2x2s and put them in an IntShld storage box.
