Has anyone else seen an Accugrade Photo Certificate? @Burton Strauss III @Conder101 I find these grading pieces to be a fascinating look back to the earlier days of third party grading. Also, the part that is cut off on the reverse of the certificate has this interesting statement: "Lustre or Strike do not determine whether or not a coin is MS-60, 63, 64, 65 or 67." And the chart says how many bagmarks or abrasions are allowed on various coins to fall into a certain MS grade...only 1 mark is allowed on a Morgan for an MS 67 but unlimited for MS 60!
I have had a few in my sights, but the dealer wont let up on his premium, they have been sitting there for almost a decade.
An 81S MS63 no chance at PL for 190, that's just one, the others, they carry a little of a toning premium, but not worth what he is asking.
Yes that is too high. There is a premium for the unique holders, but most should not be almost 4 times the price of a PCGS/NGC coin in the same grade (likely closer to a 2-2.5x premium would be fair)....unless we are taking about Compugrade, NGC Black, or PCGS Regency Holders.
The thing is he knows I want to add a nice piece, to my collection. The shop has a lot of damaged goods, except for these, and he knows it.
All other events aside, Hager made a pretty damn good effort at turning grading into an objective process.
Yes, I saw it, went for $201 or so on eBay, too rich for my blood. The date & cert# are interesting, would seem to overlap with the earliest small slabs from ACG.
$201 really? Thats just a standard price for an '83 CC !!!! Edit: thats the fanciest photo cert ive seen. Kinda reminds me of those certicates of authenticity they put out with fake baseball memorabilia.
It was about $210 shipped, which I thought was fair since UNC Carson City Morgans tend to go for 170-225. Plus when it's the first such certificate that I have seen, that makes it worth it for me. The certificate does look like someone could have made it now. However, being from the late 1980s, it seems fairly well done.
Despite the enormous fun I have at the expense of those who buy the special-label slabs, I could see myself paying the premium for this. I am conflicted.
Wow, that goes back to when the principal party was still up in Connecticut - just starting out in the litigious existence that would manifest into so much more versus the whole of the coin collecting realm some bakers dozen of years ago.
It's because those Rick Harris Signature Series holders are available right now. Those old holders aren't being made anymore. If you can't get it anymore, then you want it. Cartmanland, You can't come in!!
As near as I was able to determine these were from around 1986. I do not believe they were produced for very long. I believe I have 2 or 3 of them. (And I'm keeping them.)
I remember seeing those back in the day, but I've never owned one. I've had quite a few of the ANACS photo certs though.
