I have really enjoyed collecting the Presidential Silver Medals. I have all of them from George Washington. I have them on my subscription list. Until this year, there were no problems getting them. Some of them I really like, so I bought 2 of them. However, I don't know why the Abraham Lincoln silver medal has been backorder. I did get an email, notifying me that they will be delayed. In fact, they cancelled my subscription order. When I called them, they were rather flippant about it and told me that I would have to order them rather than rely on my subscription. On their email, they also told me that the subscription order would be filled first and there may not be enough for their customers to get an Abraham Lincoln Presidential Silver Coin. Does anyone know what is going on
Heck, Jim......I'm on the mint web site right now and they're showing availability for the Lincoln medal. I don't think there is any limit on them either so you should have no problem getting one. I too, have a subscription for this series of medals and did receive my Lincoln weeks ago. Check your subscription status on the mint web site to see if you are current. Don't waste your time talking to the phone center as those dolts know squat about anything. A few weeks ago they booted my subscription for the womens quarters. I just went into my account and re-subscribed.
The cancelled my Abraham Lincoln. I added it back into my subscription as well as I "bought" 2 of them. Somehow, I'm hoping one or two will finally go through. This is the first time I have had a glitch in my purchases...subscription or otherwise. I bet they are thinking (and maybe they are right) that due to Lincoln's popularity, they can't keep up with the purchases and subscriptions. I'm debating at which point am I going to quit buying the Presidential Silver Medals. I'm sorry that I didn't respond to your entry. In a way it helped me.
Just a suggestion. Perhaps you consider the original medals which are the models for these modern ones in silver. Here is the Lincoln medal. This one was struck sometime before 1900. George Morgan made the dies for this piece in 1886 for reasons that are unknown. There were other Lincoln medals before this one was executed. The diameter of this piece is 76mm. R.W. Julian, who wrote the main reference book for the 19th century U.S. Mint medals wrote this about the piece shown below: "Some numismatists, including the author of this work, consider the obverse of the Lincoln medal to be one of the finest artistic efforts ever struck at the mint."
