The Abbasid Caliphate took over from the Ummayads, after their leader led a rebellion and murdered the Caliph and all of his family tree, save for one who managed to escape the slaughter. He eventually set up an Ummayad Caiphate in Spain. This was the start of the Sunni/Shi-ite war which is still going on today with ISIS who are Sunni, killing the Shi-ites. Off to work now.....
