It was said that a cud would only happen on the rim, so what would you call this then ? Its atleast as thick as the wheat itself.
Just to clarify on cud versus die chip, they are essentially the same thing. A portion of the die has fallen away which leaves a blob of metal instead of the normal details. The purist definition of cud requires this to include part of the rim, but honestly I don't know why. The causes of a cud and a die chip are the same, a portion of the die has fallen away.
There is no such thing as a "Purists Definition". There is an absolute definition of a cud which always originates from the rim. Anything else is simply a die chip regardless of how badly new folks want to use the term or redefine the term.
Did not mean to cause offense. I was pointing out that the classification is based on the location of the un-struck metal not based on the process which created the un-struck metal.
