I just wanted to show you all one of my most recent additions and while I'm at it can you guess the grade? It's slabbed by ANACS. I'll run a contest at some point (when I figure out what I'm willing to give away!) http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x275/clembo1872/scn10001.jpg http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x275/clembo1872/cn0002.jpg For those intersted here are blowups of the second 8 in the date at 200 and 60X. Not listed on the holder. http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x275/clembo1872/8a.jpg http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x275/clembo1872/8b.jpg
Dan,that's a very nice cupro-nickel 3c. coin you've got there. It is probably a scarce coin as well. Aidan.
Only silly if you don't ask it Twiggs. Its a U.S. Three Cent Nickel Piece. Minted from 1865 through 1889. Known as a Three Cent Nickel due to it's composition of nickel and copper. U.S. also made Three Cent Sivers from 1851 through 1873.
Very nice coin - thanks for sharing! I am going to guess AU 53 Cleaned? I am assuming it's cleaned due to the amount of wear with little toning or anything else on the coin.?. I love the three cent coin, I would like to get one that is silver in AU condition. For that matter I would like to get a 3 cent nickel in the condition yours is in too... Best Regards Darryl
Cindy, the silver 3c. coin from America is also known as a Trime. Here's an article; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trime . Someone needs to fix up that article. Aidan.
Aiden: I just re-checked Breen. The term trime was only for the silver three cent, invented by the Mint director Snowden, and was rarely used. The public actually called them 'fish scales'.
