i have a 1994 proof set (silver) and i added up the value of each coin individually in proof, and it added up to $86.75 but does it make a difference if its in a set or individual? (edit, this should be in what its worth, sorry)
What are you using as a price guide? I would not expect to get that $$ from a dealer. Maybe not even on ebay.
If you got your prices from the Red Book you should throw them away because Red Book prices are not realistic. Coin values are based on condition. What would your coins grade? The Red Book prices are for PF-65 coins. Are your coins PF-65? If they are only PF-63 their value would be less than whatever the value of a PF-65 is.
You also have to remember...typically (but not always) a proof set will list for less than the sum of the coins in it list for. I think for modern proof sets, eBay is an excellent way to gauge what the current selling price is.
I'm not familiar with this book. But, none of the annually printed books are going to be accurate. They are only printed once a year while prices fluctuate much more rapidly. I think the best source for values is Heritage Auctions. But, I don't know how many modern proof sets they list. I would look at both their site and eBay for more accurate prices. I just did a quick eBay search of the recently completed auctions for 1994 silver proof sets are they are selling for between $17 and $30 right now.
thank you, i didnt expect it to be much because i got it for my birthday, (my aunt wouldnt tell me how much it was) but when i looked it up in the book i was pleasently surprized. so 17-30 is a a very likely what she paid
