http://cgi.ebay.com/1-FULL-ROLL-OF-...ryZ41089QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Oh my heart went pitter patter (woohoo a roll of each!!) .. then.. I read Just wondering.. would this be worth bidding $1 a coin on or do you think I'll regret this for the rest of my life?
SGS (Star Grading Services) and Aboncom... These coins are worth a nickel each...nothing more. Obviously, Star Grading Service (SGS) and Aboncom are showing their true colors. They get bank rolls of coins and pull out the "nice" ones and slab a MS70 gold label on it! They sell you a bill of goods, a bogus certificate green piece of paper, and prey on newbies. You got to give them credit...they are taking their junk that couldn't make their bogus MS70 grade and trying to sell it. Aboncom and SGS are ONE in the same. They are owned and operated by the same individuals in the Mansfield, Ohio area. I just wish that people would stop even referring to them as a grading company because they are far from it. All they are a is marketing and packaging aimed to "look" like a real gradiing company...nothing more!
ah, but these are the mint satin coins issued out of the uncirculated sets. There were only 1160000 or some such sets. I don't quite get the met their standards... they should all be at least MS66. I can't imagine what they could have done to them other than cut them out of the plastic.
"This roll is a great grouping of coins that we have that will not make SGS Grading Services' TOUGH STANDARDS!!!!" This to me is code for we have picked all the MS66 and above to package as MS70 for the unsuspecting public! If I would like to own a roll of these in say MS63 to maybe MS65 I would bid on these accordingly. Knowing what to expect helps determine what to bid! If you personally feel MS63-65 coins are worth $1.00 each then bid just to let your emotions drive your bidding! Only you know what they are worth to you! At least you know what to expect and what you get could only surprise you upward (MS 64-66 maybe?) IMHO.
The jury is still out as to weather the satins will be treated differently from the buisness strikes. If they are you $1 each for these would not be out of the question. Maybe even low. Its a small risk. I see your bidding. I'm guessing theres a snipe out there that will take this a bit higher.
ok...so right now glaciermi's bid is only slightly above a regular roll from the US Mint....not much of a risk there...you know what your getting hosed for. Now. What I'm curious about is the "actual shipping" costs. I won't bid on something that doesn't make it point blank clear what shipping will be. If you get charged anything more that $2.00 for shipping, their cheating you. P.S The roll pictured has enough rim dings to body bag all 40 of them.
You know that 20' pole I keep for things not touchable with a 10-footer? It's too short to use on this auction.
So far they are yours at about 40 cents each. Now if Dansco treats the Satins a seperate issue from the buisness strikes and produces pages with holes for both coins I would guess you will make your money back.
I only bid $20.00 and hoping I'll loose. I have no idea how they could be low quality. I would think the majority of mint sets would be similar. I plan on buying my rolls by individual coin I think. I'm happier paying a bit more when they are still in their cellophane. Wish me bad luck
well i won for $22 including shipping, so i'm not too upset.. $.50 a coin seems reasonable, even though I don't have a plethora of admiration for the seller.
I was wondering where you got the mint number? I haven't searched for it but does this take into account all the mint sets and the Westward Journey nickel sets and whatever else the satin nickels come in. $22.00 might not be bad hope they are not in to bad a shape! Let us know what they look like when they arrive.
According to the latest Numismatic News the final production numbers for the 2005 Uncirculated Mint Set were 1,160,000. As I believe that is the only venue that the satin nickels were issued, I have that number logged into my spreadsheet as a somewhat final mintage for each of the 2005 P&D Bison, Ocean in View Satin Nickels. As a comparison I have listed (same source) 2005-P Bison Circulated Mintage: 448,320,000 2005-D Bison Circulated Mintage: 487,680,000 2005-P Ocean in View Circulated Mintage: est 350,000,000 2005-D Ocean in View Circulated Mintage: est 350,000,000
I'm pretty sure the Westward Journey 6 piece Nickel set has one each P&D Bison & Ocean in veiw Satin nickel and one each Proof. I bought some sets to open up for my nickel album instead of paying $8-$10 per proof plus I get the satins as well or my albums! I do not know how many of these where produced? Is there any other produce the mint produced that has nickels as part of it? Did they produce a Westward coin and medal set this year?
I'm going to have to look inside one again. As of last issue they had sold (316,937) 2005 Westward Journey Nickel Coin Sets. Which doesn't inflate that number a huge amount.
Hey glaciermi did you get this roll of satin nickels yet? What kind of quality did you end up with? Over all are you satisfied with what you paid for them? On another note I opened up a 2005 Bison mint roll set the other day - total trash all ms61-to maybe 63 at best. Really banged up stuff. Tought they would be better.
