I am Omegaraptor, a YN, and I like Seated coins. So I thought I would take a picture of my entire Seated collection at once. Here it is: There it is! 34 coins (if you include the British groat). And the reverses: So what's my favorite one of the bunch? Well, it's a tossup between the 1852-O half dime, the 1867-S half dime, the 1859-S half, and the 1858-O half. But if I had to choose, it would be the 1867-S. It is a scarce half dime with a mintage of 120k iirc. It is rarely seen at shows, and even on Ebay where a few examples can be found, sellers ask WAY above price guide value. It is damaged, as is often the case with the 1863-7-S block of half dimes, but it is AU details with luster. I saw it at $30 and knew I was not going to be leaving the table without it. This year I want to pick up the 1837 half dime and dime to honor the 180th anniversary, and next year I will try to pick up the 1838 quarter. My dream seated? Probably the 1846 half dime. As for Gobrecht gold pieces, I dream of owning the 1864-S $10. Why do I collect seateds? Well, because I like the design and have liked it for a long time. Also, a lot of scarce Seateds can be obtained for very low prices. Any questions?
I don't know which was one was my VERY first, but it was either the 1853 half dime or the holed 1891 dime. I bought both when I was 10 years old.
The Seated dimes IMHO are highly under rated and a nice mid grade collection can still be put together by the average collector. Good show, nice collection.
Agree. Let's see the key dates: 1843-O 1844 1846 1853-O NA 1863 1864 1865 1866 1867 1871-74 CC 1879-81 Besides these, most coins in the series are very inexpensive. And with enough saving up and searching, these keys are eventually obtainable as well.
There's also a few of the S's with Drapery that fall in there also, but all in all, with such a spread of dates it could still be accomplished over some time and with some patience.
Ah yes, the 1856-60 S mints. That's a really tough block in the quarter series too, and they are quickly rising in value right now.
Ah, thank you. I was thinking about the key date half dime. There is a 1853 no arrows dime though, and it's quite expensive.
I agree, I have a number of circulated seated coins, the majority dimes, but have kind of drifted into other things. Not everyone likes the design, but I have always thought they are neat. Gives me the itch to look for some additions. Thanks for sharing, OP!
Nice collection! Every time I see a post from you about seated liberty coinage it reminds me that I need to get around to finally acquiring one. Somehow I still haven't bothered to buy one yet.
