from an email from the US MINT The journey to America’s 250th continues. Last month, we kicked off the countdown to America’s Semiquincentennial with the announcement of the release of newly designed circulating coins in 2026. We also shared a first look at the first release in the Best of the Mint numismatic series — a historic reissue of five collector favorites struck throughout our Nation’s history. Today, we’re excited to share the second coin and medal set in our Best of the Mint series — a tribute to peace and vigilance, the 1916 Standing Liberty Gold Coin & Silver Companion Medal.' This quarter was part of the 1916 rebirth of American silver coinage. Artist Hermon A. MacNeil sculpted Miss Liberty uncovering a shield in an attitude of protection and holding an olive branch of peace. On the coin’s reverse, a graceful American eagle flies. Crafted in 1/4 oz 99.99% fine gold, this 2026 reissue will be paired with a companion 1 oz silver medal inspired by elements of the original 1916 Standing Liberty quarter, bringing a modern interpretation and new life to a timeless symbol. Together the designs embody strength, diplomacy, and America’s enduring ideals. Explore the designs for the 2026 reissue of the 1916 Standing Liberty — Gold Coin & Silver Companion Medal today.
I saw that email and am a bit confused..... I assume the gold will be a reissue of the 2016 quarter ounce..... I cannot figure out what they are saying about the silver though. Is it the stylized one ounce creation shown in the photo with the gold reissue?
I wish the amazing looking 1 oz silver medal "inspired by elements of the original 1916 Standing Liberty quarter, bringing a modern interpretation and new life to a timeless symbol" was a 1 oz silver COIN and not only a medal. Meaning, for the anniversary it would either replace or be in addition to, the current ASE. (I am sure the law probably doesn't allow it) That way people that can't afford, or don't want gold coins, could get anniversary coins at silver coin prices. I likely will still purchase the medal, as it's a great new design and not just a rehash. Still, it would have a way larger audience of collectors if they released it as a COIN. From the images, this looks also to be a proof only medal?? I hope they will have MS or Matte or some other finish as well.
From the picture I assume they are going to reissue the 2016 and release a 1oz Silver medal with that different design. I wish it was the same design but I'll probably get both. . Hopefully the medal will be less than an ASE price. A current 1oz silver medal I was thinking of getting is $97 .... I've held off on clicking the Checkout button from the price .... been sitting my "Bag" and I've rebagged it a couple times ... just can't get over the price yet ... as on the bay ... the price for a proof one is less than the $97 from the Mint.
Check eBay and other auctions for that 2023 medal. Currently someone has it on eBay for about $75 total. I don’t know the seller but they do have 100% feedback. Auctions and sold BINs have gone for $60-$70. Usually items like this from the mint can be found for less after release. https://www.ebay.com/itm/306428542651
Well I confess, I haven't gotten my glasses yet from the VA. Is that why she looks as though she has four breasts?
Personally, I think the artistry work in that medal is amazing. I don't have any medals in my collection, but this one might have to make its way into my hoard.
