Posted this on another forum a few days ago, hoping for info on what exactly it is. First I thought it was a counterfeit, but since it does not have a denomination, mint or assayer mark it is really a fantasy piece. It's definitely old though. Saw it on ebay where it sold for $434. Thoughts?
I think its a 1 realie coin. Here is a link to 1 I own of the same era. Though not as nice as this one pictured. https://plus.google.com/photos/1021...5585494356875737010&oid=102169990131295314210 https://plus.google.com/photos/1021...5585494368285276946&oid=102169990131295314210 Sooo the one pictured below is probably a fraud in my opine.
Don't know much on these types (i.e., predominatly a portrait Carolus III,IV & Ferdinand VII espert) but contemporary counterfeits as you know can have missing and/or blundered legends which may be the case here on this prize specimen. Robert Gurney is the world leading authority on counterfeit 8R Cap and Rays - perhaps he could expound further on this piece. John Lorenzo United States
Thanks John, yes I've had quite a few conversations with good ol' swamperbob on contemporary counterfeits. =)
