I bought this coin on January 27. It arrived today. I am glad it finally arrived. I love the hooked nose on this one. I have 2 other examples of this variant but this one has the most interesting portrait. Vespasian Denarius AR Denarius, Rome Mint, 77-78 AD RIC 939 (R). BMC 203. RSC 129. Obv: IMP CAESAR VESPASIANVS AVG; Head of Vespasian, laureate, r. Rev: COS VIII; Mars, helmeted, naked except for cloak, fastened with belt round waist, standing l., holding spear slanting upwards l. in r. hand and trophy on l. shoulder in l. Corn-ear upright in ground r. Ex: Jesus Vico Online auction 7 Lot 81 January 23, 2020
A very distinctive proboscis. That's such a severe hook, it could have been used to open bottles of soda pop!
That's quite a wait! Glad it finally reached you. That incredible hooked nose portrait is really something else, but I also think your new/old coin is cool for the reverse type, which copies the RR issue of L. Valerius Flaccus from 180 years earlier. I would show an example, but mine, well, let's just say I'm still looking for an example which actually has a reverse. ROMAN REPUBLIC AR Denarius, obverse brockage. 3.81g, 20.9mm. Rome mint, 108-107 BC. L. Valerius Flaccus, moneyer. Cf. Crawford 306/1; cf. Sydenham 565. O: Winged and draped bust of Victory right; mark of value below chin. R: Incuse of obverse.
I don't think I have ever had a coin take that long to arrive. I'm surprised you didn't ask for a refund. A nice addition to your Flavian hoard.
Beautiful coin. Congrats! And, yeah the nose / facial expression makes it a winner! LOL, I do not read Latin, but I promise not to tickle the sleeping dragon... but to me, that is a huge temptation!
