I just found a nickel that looks strange (to me) I have searched the web to try and find if it is a mint error or if it was tampered with. it is a 1981 Jefferson Nickel that looks like it has been stamped with something else just under/inside the words on the face it looks to have another circular stamping pretty much around the whole coin but most noticable under/inside the words. If anyone could direct me to a place that can tell me more I would be very greatful. Please and thank you
Does it look stamped???? Its hard to tell without a picture, but are you sure its not circular scratches??? To me it sounds like your coin was at the end of a roll and went through a coin rolling machine. They get a large circular scratch once they come out of the rolling machine. But pictures always help.
A circle around the entire coin sounds like coin wrapping machine damage, but it is impossible to tell without a pic! Oh, and welcome to Coin Talk. Many people here who are willing to help with all your questions!
