A little confusion (LOT) on doubled dies

    I think I read on a post somewhere that if the letters on a coin are "flat" looking that might indicate the coin is a doubled die. Did I read that correctly? Is this considered a "flat" lettered coin?

    Flat and shelf like doubling is generally MD, not actual die doubling. Your posted coin isn't a doubled die imo.

    Also, MD is machine doubling that means the die was not quite secure and moved slightly during the strike and so "smeared" the letter/number.
