On my wish list for 2016 was a cast bar with recognizable features. I think I may have over-done this one with three. The last arrived today, 12/21..... now I can do the tuff job of ordering some neat finds this year. Ramo Secco cast ingot side one side 2 end view, you can see where the two molds did not quite match my RS bars Bar Number 1 2 3 Weight, grams 826 893 128 Length, mm 61 88 45 Width, mm 77 67 49 Thick, mm 36 32 28 PS - I think the seller of the last bar still has a bigger, and a bit more expensive one, for sale.
Today, I received the number one item on my wish list…a ramo secco bar! I purchased it in the last Artemide Aste auction, and these are photos supplied by vendor. First the background story…. @rrdenarius knew how much I wanted a ramo secco bar, and he told me about the auction. He even told the seller that he had a friend interested in the bars, and garnered additional photos of the bars, which he passed along to me. I placed my bid on this currency bar via DeMoneta….and lost! I had meant to participate in the live auction, and I got busy and forgot, so was very depressed since I wanted the bar. And I was especially kicking myself since I lost by ONE bid. But then I got an email from @rrdenarius ! The person who won the auction did not buy the bar, and the seller asked @rrdenarius if his friend (me) was still interested in the bar. AND OF COURSE I SAID YES!! I arranged payment, and the bar arrived in less than 2 weeks --pretty impressive for a vendor from San Marino! So the moral of this story is…if you collect ancient coins, it’s good to have CoinTalk friends! Ramo secco bars are usually found in fragments and weigh from 500 grams to 2000 grams. My bar feels weighty in-hand (1084 grams) and has a dark-green patina with minor earthen-brown highlights. late 6th to 4th century BC Central Italy, Aemilia (?) A bar/bar fragment is on my wish list! Trouble always seems to be timing and provenance. I won't buy one without verifiable provenance, and the few times those have come up for sale in the last year or two, I've had other high value targets in my sights. One of these days the stars will align for me to have a bar!
Just an amazing story of Fortune! Your piece is wonderful! This is my target list also! I just hope @Carausius has the same compassion when targets one! That was fantastic Teamwork @rrdenarius !
So nice! You know that this a target of mine, you nailed it WELL! Excellent pieces of history, big congrats! I really like them!
