This is the penny jar at my parents' house- a 2 liter Coke added for scale. I wonder how many Wheaties might be in there. I can't lift it at all. The most I can do is turn it around, and it takes effort. It's stupid heavy.
A thing of beauty. I once searched a 5-gallon water bottle full of cents and it took days to complete the search. It contained over 35,000 cents to sort through.
What was your best find in that mega lot? The odd thing is, I found a 1957-D under the table right next to it. One of the grandkids must have been playing with them and dropped one. It happens a lot. LOL.
Been there done that as well. When I first started, Hinckley and Schmidt jugs were glass and I broke 2 trying to get the coins out. they then switched to plastic and I realized that 2 1/2 gallons of pennies (only 1/2 full) was going to give me a hernia.
I know someone with one but they will not give it up yet? I went through the kids piggy banks one day and found 2 silver dimes.
I'm about half way through my sisters five gallon water bottle and I can't say I'm disappointed. Found plenty of die cracks, clashes, counter clashes, minor doubled dies, all cents. Let your fun begin! Just lay the bottle on it's side like I did and shake them out until you can manage it better.
My uncle had a 5 gallon water jug filled with quarters that got stolen in the 90s when he had a party at his place. That had to be a tough pill to swallow for him. Ignore the fact that a ton were probably silver and it's probably 3-4k face value.
thats cool.. but be careful, that jar looks pretty thick, but keep this in mind, my dad had a 5 gallon glass water bottle filled to the top like yours with pennies and tried to move it by tipping it an rolling and the whole bottom broke off about 2 inches up the sides and he then had a floor full of pennies.....
You've been talking to one of my cats on the sly, haven't you? Dirty b@s.... thinks every coin needs to be flung onto the carpet apparently. No hesitation - just FLINGGGGG!
I asked my Dad, and he honestly doesn't remember when they started saving them, but they've had the bottle since 1985.
be careful shaking the bottle to get them out, it's how my glass ones broke. the mouth looks plenty wide to put your whole hand inside. probably best to scoop them out if you are able
I keep this one around, Any greedy hands better watch out! It was dragging it by the neck across the carpet to sort all the clad. I got it close, and it sure made my job easy.
