I was following this coin at GC tonight (did not win) and while looking back at the threads from yesteryear, I noticed that @Lehigh96 had posted it while discussing the Great Falls Collection. This coin originally sold at Heritage in 2007 as part of a 3 coin lot for 2,185. Today it brought $1,433.23 on its own. Someone has reholdered it since the original auction and received the CAC sticker. https://www.greatcollections.com/Co...6-152--CAC-Green-Toned-Great-Falls-Collection Here is the Heritage listing with the 3 coins: https://coins.ha.com/itm/morgan-dol...a/430-5441.s?ic4=GalleryView-Thumbnail-071515
I remember that coin, dynamite eye appeal as were most of the Great Falls Morgan Dollars. I miss my toned Morgan collection.
You can always get back into Morgans By the way, is the price (from GC's auction) surprising to you or does it seem reasonable?
Collecting toned Morgan Dollars is expensive and I don't have the funds to collect what I would want in that arena. The price of this coin is evidence of that. To me it is very high, like double what it should be, but not surprising.
The three coins in the Heritage sale were essentially identical, so about $700 each. It doesn't surprise me that the price doubled in 18 years. Most coins have gone up a lot and the toning craze really took off during those 18 years.
