My early Saint Nicholas gift from the wife:

    6ZbpA3JpCz5Fx4Wn9jRSfP2fj7yF8D.jpg

    GRATIAN AR19mm 2.10g Siliqua (XF)

AV: DN GRATIA - NVS PF AVG; pearl-diademed draped cuirassed bust r.

REV: VRBS ROMA; Roma seated on throne, holding sceptre and Victory on globe.

    EXE: TRPS•, Trier mint.

REF: RIC IX Trier 45c, rated C (but rather rare in this condition, XF details, full flan, full legends, no clipping) 375-378AD.

Outstanding example for the type. The fact that this spec has no faults specific to these issues and most conspicuously clippings, might suggest that it was hoarded soon after being minted and put into circulation.

    Excellent gift.

Here is a picture of the coins my wife bought me for Christmas over the years.

    Yup. Nuff said.

Didn't happen to me but a friend of mine said he gave his wife a couple of high quality Roman republic coins for Christmas and she gave him a new vacuum cleaner.:arghh:

The last time I gifted a woman a coin, it was an 1865 Three Cent Piece. Four months later she threw it in the coin box at a toll plaza because she thought it was a dime. Shortly thereafter she became my ex-wife.

I know what some of you are thinking, but I swear I did not divorce her because of that.

She picked it from one of my favorite dealers and she insisted to pay for it by herself. And she did! :)

This year I'm guaranteed to get at least one coin for Christmas, if only my secret santa would hurry. Send me the package, I promise I won't look inside until Christmas. ;)

Does a quick peak count as looking?

I think it was just her sense of aesthetics. She is not really interested in numismatics although she indulges me with listening to my stories of great research into obscure fields like the revolt of Poemenius or the overweight Maiorinae of Rome of early 350 :)

OK. I see what is going on here. You are referring to a make believe wife.

Wow, you had me going there. I feel much better now.

My make believe wife still would not be interested in my coins. I have other ideas for my dream wife.....

seth => your wife rocks!! (she did very well)

I love my sweet wife, but she understands that I have a bit of an obsession-problem with my hobby, so she refuses to fuel the fire (I get non-coin gifts from my sweetie ... she is very wise)
