I went to the Annapolis, MD coin show today with my son. It is a relatively small show, maybe a couple dozen tables at most, and only one ancient dealer. I met this dealer previously at the Baltimore Whitman show and he was very kind and generous with both his knowledge and gifting my son a few ancients to add to his collection. I ended up buying 3 coins and my son was gifted 3 as well. Here is what I bought: Antonius Pius Denarius ANTONINVS AVG PIVS PP, Laureate Head Right COS IIII, Thunderbolt on Garlanded Alter Hadrian Brass Semis. HADRIANVS AVGVSTVS, laureate bust right COS III S-C, lyre Maximianus 297-298 AD, AE Follis, Heraclea Mint IMP CMA MAXIMIANVS PF AVG, laureate head right GENIO POPV-L-I ROMANI, Genius standing left, modius on head, naked except for chlamys over left shoulder (falls low), holding patera from which liquid flows and cornucopiae. Mintmark HTA
Here is what my son was gifted: Constans AE3. D N CONST-ANS P F AVG, pearl-diademed head right VOT XX MVLT XXX within wreath. The mint mark is non-existent due to the flan being so far off center. This were were told is from Syracuse ~4th Century BC. We looked on wildwinds and this was the closed possibility my son came up with: Siculo-Punic AE 15mm. ca 4th century BC. Wreathed head of Persephone-Tanit left Horse rearing to right. Not sure if it is properly oriented on the other side that isn't the horse His coin is 5.09g and approximately 15mm Any help would be appreciated on this one!
Thanks! I paid $60 for the 3. Definitley more than what I am used to...but I thought these were great additions. Easy to read legends and nice (to me at least) eye appeal.
