WOW!!!! You must have the nicest collections of these coins that I have ever seen. How did you get all of them including the 1974 Aluminum cent which one exist, did you steal it from the mint? The ultimate type set!!!!
I think that it was implied that the coins were fake. No one would have a 1943 Copper cents and steel cent from 1944. Also, a one of a kind aluminum cent. The 1955 is the only one that I could see someone having in that set due to availability.
It's even better than that -- it's not one of the relatively common 1974 test strikes, it's a previously-unknown example of the Mint's experimental cast cents! (The Mint presumably gave up on that approach when they couldn't figure out how to get rid of the bubbles and mushiness on the obverse.) I really should try making a gallium cent one of these days -- I could cast it directly from a wax mold. I'd have to keep it in the fridge at this time of year, though.
Im no expert but surely if these coins were real then they would've been all over the news before a forum...!!!
Please tell me you did not buy your coin from the listing on this thread. https://www.cointalk.com/threads/the-worst-fake-i-have-seen-sold-on-ebay-sold-for-340.255931/
You would be surprised what the mint made in 43, theres also some planchets made of white metal for this year, I know, I known 2 of them .. That was some time ago when I sold them ...
Very cool, a pattern right? I also heard of the mint experimenting with plastic in 1942 for the war effort! Here is the plastic one cent experimental piece.
There's a registry set at PCGS that has several 43 coppers and 44 steels owned by the same collector. I will try and find it and post it here.
