What's the fastest way to search plastic wrapped nickels for silver? can you tell like 50C pieces? I really want to search the nickels just dont want to spend my life re-wrapping everytime What banks have coin counters available for members? I've never seen one. How come I never find silver in bank wrapped rolls of halves?? Does anyone have luck with brinks boxes w/ plastic wrapped rolls? The bank closest to me is willing to order these for me.
I don't mean to sound flippant, but a lot of what you're asking varies based on the area of the country you're in, the amount of competition in your area, the variety and number of banks/armored car companies in your area, and their policies for ordering change. Like most of us, the only way to really answer that question for your particular part of the country is to just experiment until you figure things out. Although I'd say generally in answer to your halves question, halves in BWR are hit or miss. You'll skunk out a lot, maybe you'll get a few per box, and then if you're lucky a few big finds.
1. Practice makes perfect. Just search for whichever coins you want, and you'll learn how to do it quicker. 2. TCF has them at every branch. Flagstar has a few, but not at many branches. A lot of credit unions do. Not sure which banks are over there on that side of the state. 3. You win some you lose some. Volume is key. 4. Yup, sometimes.
1) NO, do not go by just the edges for plastic wrapped nickels. Yes, the wars are normally darker, but i've found many that I would have missed had I just gone by the edges, not to mention missing V Nicks and Buffs and proofs. 2) I haven't seen one either. 3) It's a crap shoot... keep trying! 4) Yes.
Not around me. I've asked, and they said maybe the large branch downtown (Detroit) has one, but they weren't sure.
I've been searching some rolls of late. To me it just takes time but I enjoy the pace and the search. Calm quiet hours. Secret to re-rolling is to not make little stacks on a table but to toss the coins down on the bed. Trying to lift stacks off a hard surface is slow and balancing stacks is slow. Much easier and faster on a soft surface you can grab from. do little pulls of 5 coins. Put little groups of 5 out in rows until you have what you need for a roll. Grab some from the rows and align them in your hand so they can slide into a roller. Done.
