The Civil War tokens were struck by private companies and individuals and were used for small change during the war. Because of the conflict people hoarded regular government issued coinage and it became increasingly difficult for merchants to make change for customer's purchases. This series of tokens makes for an interesting area of collecting Mike. Bruce
