I have a few interesting finds that were difficult to photograph... but i got a new lens for my camcorder (which happens to be my dig cam as well)... so here are the posts. The first is this bison nickle... it's got some poop hanging off the edge of the ground The next is a cent that I found. The memorial is being struck by a bolt of lightning and it seems to have pushed everything off (as you can see, there seems to be doubling going on) The third has a bizarre die crack/gouge or strange cud error
What are your thoughts on these 3 coins... also... whatcha think of my camera's zoom??? pretty good for a camcorder *L*
Nice!! I have a lincoln similar to your first picture. My digi cam is hopeless but I can take still pics from my camcorder but not as good as yours. What type of a lense are you using on your camcorder? Also how much?
I have a wide-angle lens. It comes in two pieces (two lenses). I was just messing around and took off the last lens and found the focal length. I was able to zoom all the way and still find a focal length. This is the lens i used... less than 40 bucks!!! http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage...t&productCategoryId=cat08330&id=1069300363160 like i said before... you can unscrew the outside lens. i use an external light source to get that perfect angle :hatch: :hammer:
Hi, Die chip on the buffalo nickel, Die break "lightning bolt", possibly a die gouge on the last one , but could be a strange die break. The pictures are pretty darn good Have Fun, Bill
is there a form of mechanical doubling on the second coin? The "CE" shows signs of it and where the "lightning bolt" hits the memorial, there's a ghostly shadow of another on behind it
Hi, The doubling around the E and C of ONE CENT is something that often happens on the plated cents. The plating seems to move around a little during the strike giving that doubled appearance. Have Fun, Bill
thanx for all the responces guys!!! I have come to love this forum for all your vast knowledge!!! :high5:
Love the gouge/whatever on the last coin. What year is that one? Pre - 1993 I know, but still curious. Neat finds and great picts
Had a BestBuy gift certificate and used it for the lens addressed in this thread by xeno108 on a panasonic mini dv. Does a pretty nice job, closer than I could get with the camera alone and more convenient than putting it up to a microscope eyepiece. It will require a tripod or some homemade arrangement to steady the camera. Image size reduced and optimized.
that cent was a 1992. one of my fav gouge thingies. bennypenny, i have a tripod and a remote trigger for my zoom pics... works the best. it's the lighting that I have the problem with. how is yours set up?
Xeno108, my lighting is quite primitive(a desk lamp). The standard household bulb gives everthing a yellow tint and reflections. Ask any graphic designer or photographer and they'll tell you indirect lighting is the way to go. I have yet to take the time to set something like that up.
A standard tissue over a flash works wonders as a makeshift diffuser. And I think its GE Reveal bulbs that are recommended if your going the desk lamp route as they give a broader spectrum of light.
Tried the tissue paper and had lousy results with it. I will be looking for one of these bulbs on my next trip to Home Depot. I've also read somewhere in here a person using a plastic milk bottle as a tent....that sounds like something worth experimenting with.
I agree. That's why I purchased it. Clips are quite common but this one looked better than average. Take note of the "blakesley effect" on the obverse rim opposite the clip, an important thing to look for when dealing with this type error as it verifies a genuine clip.
