A couple of months ago I purchased approx. 24,000 pre-1960 Canadian cents from a friend of mine who has had them sitting in his garage for the last 20+ years. I've spent several weeks sorting and examining almost all of them. I sorted out the '48's and 49's and all the '20's and 30's that were in the pile so I could check them later for varieties. I also pulled out any pennies with flaws (both mint and post-mint). I still have to search the rolls. Here are a few pics of some of the interesting ones I've come across. Over the next few weeks I'll post under specific headings such as die cracks, laminations, etc.. But for now, here's a few to whet your appetite. The first two pics appear to be a "struck through". There is no damage on the back of the cent: The next cent has an "A" at the top of the head of King George: This one has a nice die crack running through the "9" in the date: This has a good sized lamination flaw at the lower edge: Here's another die crack running through the top of the leaves: And this last one has it's date obliterated:
Not sure... here's a pic of an "A" in "CANADA" from the reverse of the coin. It appears to be similar if not the same font and the same size:
Don't know.... the damage isn't evident on the other side. However, there is one hole on the other side but in a different location
