I'm thinking of bidding this one. Does the sellers assessment seem correct? 1865 AU+ 3c Ni Clashed Die with Reverse Die Breaks.....I thought I saw clashes on the obv. also from 6:00 to 12:00 and 12-6 on the field between the denticles and the element? This could be stains but given the rev. condition, if that is a clash and asst. breaks ,shouldn't there BE clash marks on both sides? Or there's another showing the same symptoms for about the same price ( pics.6-7.) I'm leaning towards the 1st sellers eval. on the rev.. As far as the obv. I'm not sure if I am seeing clash or stains. The 2nd seller doesn't mention clash just a F raw coin... do either look like obv/rev clash with breaks? The last shot is of an AU53. Would either of these grade that or better? the link is to a PCGS MS67 check 7-8 o'clock on the obv. rim . A huge jump from 67 to 68(pop1) $1K to $12K. lhttps://www.pcgs.com/coinfacts/coin/1865-3cn/3731
First coin looks cleaned with a scratch running east-west just below the chin on the neck. At best VF Details. Lots of wear on the hair and on the numerals on the reverse. Coin is too shiny for so much wear, color is off. Second coin looks like it could be original, definitely a clash, F is a fair grade for the coin. Neither have any shot at AU, sorry.
Thanks...without reaching an AU neither one will work. 22 per coin+25 grading is barely a break even I remember when those old nick/3 brought more than that.... back to the drawing board
I don’t think those are worth $22 and I also wouldn’t really bother getting anything under MS graded, unless it is unique or I’m keeping it. Is your goal to make a profit from such a purchase?
No my goal is to off my PCGS and ICG crapola that PF69DCAMS won't bring raw price especially the PCGS. I'm switching genre towards errors on olds. Where you garde them only for authentication and attribution, not as much about the grade. I don't want to go below AU purchases but also don't buy verbal MS's very often.
What did you think on especially the reverses? Damage on the wreath, missing elements (one of the 1 in 111) does that indicated clash? That was what side the seller is keying on. Oh and thanks for replying. I wast have wee wee'd in somebody's bonnet to get almost 200 looks and 3 replies???With the title I used? Appreciate it
Hi TG , I agree with the others above. As for a die clash, if you don't see the designs of one side on the other/wrong side, then I don't think it's a die clash, is it? I would not buy these coins based on a "purported", or seller-claimed, die clash. Some eBay sellers exaggerate the quality of their coins, and other items for that matter, all the time. I don't consider these coins AU either. Not even the one in the slab. My best guesstimate on value would be $11 - $15. I hope this helps.
