Here is a couple of strange ones that I ran across recently.
First is a 19?? Jefferson Nickel that has all the outside lettering on both sides almost obliterated. I first thought parking lot refugee, but then I noticed that the rims were still intact and Jefferson and Monticello did not seem to have any unusual wear.
Number 2 is a 94 D Washington Quarter with the strangest first letter A in AMERICA that I have ever seen. All else appears normal except some mild machine doubling of the first U in UNUM.

Broken die? What are your thoughts? 19-- Jeff bad die obv.jpg 19-- Jeff bad die rev.jpg 94DWashrev.jpg 94DWashrev2.jpg 94DWashrev3.jpg

P.S. I must be gettin senile! Have I asked this question before?

The nickel was altered outside the Mint. Exactly how, I'm not sure. But its appearance is incompatible with any known error. I'm not sure what's going on with that letter A. I suspect it's post-strike damage.
