Here's a few Morgans that I have. Not a Morgan collector. Real shame on the first. Decent frost but rough fields and methinks it's been dipped. http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x275/clembo1872/scan0010-2.jpg http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x275/clembo1872/scan0011-2.jpg This one I like a lot more. Natural or AT? http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x275/clembo1872/scan0012-3.jpg http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x275/clembo1872/scan0013-1.jpg So what do you all think?
I prolly shouldn't respond since I am still a newb, but I was told that toning starts on the edges....in that case I would say NT AWESOME coins though...
I've collected Morgans for a few years and both are very nice coins. It’s hard to tell on the first coin if the dulling is from the flash or because of dipping. A larger picture in natural light may help. Overall it has very nice eye appeal, but is worn, XF-45 maybe AU-50. The second looks to be natural toning to me. The grade would be VF-30 or 35. Just my opinion. It's always hard to grade from a small picture.
Both coins could be worth about $25 to $30 or so depending on the grade. If you could ever get the 1885P in a higher grade, you could realize up to $700 in MS65 condition. so without seeing a super close up, kinda hard. Personally, any AU or better, I'd have slabbed and graded.
Not looking for grades or anything guys. Common dates I know. Bought the first for the frost and second for the color. I have maybe 30 Morgans that I have picked up over the years. Some BU some toned. Own one slab an 1899 PCGS MS63. Ran across these last night looking for another coin and figured I'd share them. For what I have invested in any it's not worth slabbing to me. Would cost me more than the coins.
I am getting more picky when it comes to morgans now. I am now looking for dates and to complete a CC set. I think both of the coins you showed have nice eye appeal. Are you collecting or were those coins left to you?
Looks like the '85-O has been thumbed , notice the brownish color , sams color the oils on ones fingers turn , after thumbing the cheeks to hide minor contact marks , the bottom coin looks like NT , still both are nice coins , rzage
A lot of the morgans can be bouth in the high grades and not cost you an arm and/or a leg. One of the reason I collect them. I started because I think it is an awesome design and I enjoy looking at them.
Just coins I've picked up over the years. As I said I don't collect Morgans. I prefer 19th Century U.S. type and am now dinking around with Barber quarters.
greetings! i like them both and thank you for sharing. haven't been able to get on here much due to being overwhelmed at work. i would need a larger pic to comment on dipping, but the toning looks natural to me on the 2nd morgan. the first one almost has a pl appearance but my eyes need larger pics to really comment. both are pretty and thank you again for sharing them w/us. my very best wishes........steve
