It's taken me a while to get my scanner to work properly and take good enough pictures. The first is a picture of an "1809 Bust Half Dollar". Why would I put this coin in quotes. Because It's not real. Yes, I was duped into buying a counterfeit coin. But, I am not complaining. This particular coin is likely traced back to right after the clvil war when people produced many contemporary counterfeit bust halves to account for the coin shortage. I weighed the coin (9.9 grams), checked the design type (crude), and checked the density (not even silver although could have had a silver wash). Not all that bad for $20 off of ebay. The second coin is an 1834 Classic $5 Gold coin. This is the very first gold coin I have ever bought and I have just fallen in love with the design. Nothing high grade, but a nice problem free F-12.
Nice pickups. People collect those contemporary counterfeits, as you probably know, and it is quite possibly worth more than you paid I love the classic head design on gold.
I know that the 1809 is worth a bit more than what I paid that's why I didn't return it. For one thing, the people who made the counterfeit did a very good job on the bust, but messed up most on the date. I've been thinking about getting a nice collection of classic $5's together, but I'm not sure yet.
