@Barney McRae's earlier post about it being quiet around here has prompted me to post a few coins. I like seeing other people's post, but am either too lazy to take pictures or think my coins aren't on par with some other members' coins here (lame excuses, both). And so... Here you are! The 2015 Silver coin (Thank you @lordmarcovan for pointing that it is a silver coin, not a round) was gotten probably a year ago and the Fugio cent was recent. I don't know much about them, but $30 didn't seem bad. I have also been working on a silver Roosevelt dime set for a while. I have purposed to never buy a particular date and have only put in coins that I got cheaply in junk silver lots. I finally found a nice 1955 a couple months ago (yep, I am behind times!) and have now completed the set.
Can’t beat a Fugio cent for 30 bucks, no matter what it looks like! You did well. I have only owned one- in 48 years of collecting- and it was in similar condition to yours, albeit also holed (but I collect holeys). Coincidentally, mine also cost $30-ish, about 15 years back. Actually, I think yours is a tiny bit less corroded than mine was (I no longer own it). One day I’ll splurge and get a decent (problem free F-VF or better) one for my “serious” collection.
@JoshuaP I have been collecting for over 75 years and can say that there is no such thing as "par" in coin collecting. If a persons collection meets their goals then it is the best collection in the world, and, we like to see it.
Amen. Listen to the Wise Old Sage, there. Each of us sets his or her own personal "par". We can't all be big-budget, deep-pocket types. PS- and as I described above, your $30 Fugio cent is slightly better than my $30 Fugio cent was, so there's your "above par" right there, if you wanna think in those sort of comparisons.
