So, I picked up 3 more coins for my Third Reich collection. I am very happy with all of them. Here are a few pictures. Please let me know what you think they grade and after a little while I will let you know what grade I purchased them as.

The first coin is a 1944-A (Berlin mint) 1 Reichspfennig. It is made of zinc, I particularly like this coin because you can clearly see how poor the metal quality was this late in the war...most clearly on the reverse.

Next, this is a 1940-A 2 Reicspfennig. This coin is bronze. I bought it in part because of the unique mark on the front. It might look like a staple scratch at first but it is actually a lint mark.

Finally, this is a 1940-F (Stuttgart mint) 5 Reichspfennig. This coin is zinc and is the first year this denomination was made in zinc. I bought this coin due to the exceptional luster. WWII German zinc coins are very hard to find with good luster...but this one has it. Unfortunately, this coin displays spotting that is typical for the zinc issues. But, I got it for a good price and the luster made it worth it.

So, please let me know what you think and what you would grade them.

Very nice, I like the zinc coins. They are just tough to find in decent condition.

  4. Very nice. Zinc does not age well at all, even with the spotting that 5 pfennig looks great.

The 2 looks like a strike through to me..it probably is what you describe, seeing it in person surely gives you a much better perspective.

The 2 pfennig is the only minor (under a Mark) coin denomination from Nazi Germany that I don't have a single example of. (the rest were brought home from the war by one of my relatives who served)

I'm glad you guys like them. The zinc 5 pfennig is a coin I really love. The luster is great on it.
