I wanted to share a few more of the shots I have from Todd at BluCC of my Buffalos. I eventually hope to have a good portion of my Buffalos and Walkers imaged. Anyway, it has been enjoyable to see some nice images of my coins and to be able to share them. And a proof: I like the toning on this 14-S. Any thoughts, comments, criticisms welcome. I will try to post a set of Walkers at some point later.
I absolutely love the 1925; the reverse patina is extremely cool. Love how the yellow coloration graces the bison but the lower fields remained untoned.
Thanks, Paul. The 1925 is a neat coin that I picked up at Baltimore and is an example of a coin I would never have found on the internet because the dealer I bought it from is not one of the ones I normally buy from. It is actually one of the few coins Todd has had a difficult time getting a good and accurate photo of, but I like this image.
Nice heard..... And I wished I had went to the Baltimore show... I've been working on my heard of ms 65 or better ....And the tone buffalos just add so much to a nice collection ...I just purchased a 1916 P MS-65 toned about a month ago. The colors are just unreal. Nickels tone differently than other coins...I just have seen so many different colors and tones in nickels in general. Ice blues in the 1960's proof coins, yellows,& golden tones in both Buffalos and Jeffersons..... and also rainbow tones as well.
Lehigh you really like the 25 the best? It looks to lack some luster that the 14s has. I really like that 14s the best and I like the toning better too on it.
I really like the proof! Mind if I ask the price on that? MS buffalos are nice, but there's something about that proof shine.
I just keep lookin' I just keep lookin'~ And the lookin' is Good. So dropped off the Proof and tried to pick between the Working Buff's..... Now I have to go look again.
That 25 is really nice! I love how they sometimes dual tone like that. I recently picked one up with a soft blue on the obverse and a nice green reverse. Probably my favorite buffalo. Guy~
The overall eye appeal of the 1925 is very attractive as well as unique. I have a hard time getting excited about golden toning like that seen on the 1914-S. The 1925 may appear to be lacking in luster, but my guess is that the luster is better than the photo leads on. Usually the satin luster 1925's have a weaker strike than this coin. I hesitate to judge the luster of this coin based solely on Todd's photo. A photo which Breakdown admitted Todd had trouble with.
Paul, you are dead on. The 1925 has great luster and I think it is the luster that Todd struggled with. For whatever reason, I think it is a tough coin to image. Unlike you, I like golden toned Buffalos (and do get excited about them) but I have to admit that of the three above, the 1925 is my favorite. One other thing I would mention is I purchased the proof from Bill Shamhart, a fine dealer and good guy, at Numismatic Americana. If you haven't yet, check out his website, which is quite interesting and shows his interest in how history and numismatics go hand in hand. Thanks to all for the comments. I will try to post a few more in the future.
Hi Breakdown... I like the 1925 the most. It's got the very original look and great toning(that date was never fully struck), the proof is a beaut and the 1914-S drips lustre. Let this buff collector see some more.
"Fabulous" is a good starting point ! :thumb: As for my favorite... tough call, but gotta choose the '37 proof. Best detail.
Nice coins & photos. Thanks for sharing! As an aside, proof buffs (and Mercs) are among the most difficult of all coins to photograph, in my experience. Their deep relief wreaks havoc on any attempts at even lighting.
