When I was a teenager back in the early 60's we used to play a game where we would pitch quarters onto a concrete walkway up against a concrete retaining wall and the closest quarter to the wall would win all the quarters. You can imagine how scarred and scratched they would become, and of course they were all silver at the time.
You must have lived in a upscale part of town. We played that game in the early 70's and we used cents or nickels. Quarters in the early sixties was kind of the equivalent of about three dollars today.
That's right. To continue the story. We played at a friend's of mine house whose dad was a mechanic that worked out of his garage. They had 14 kids living in a 3 bedroom house. He literally had coffee cans full of coins in his garage, and it was his coins that we usually used. The man was amazing. He could stand on a concrete block and touch the ground with his fingertips.
