I have been on a break with ancient buying but today is my birthday and my mom surprised me with a ancient. She told me she got it from a new local coin shop that opened not to long ago. Needless to say she has a good eye & now I wanna go to the shop more to see what they have.

Although it isnt a crispina or lucilla since they are my main focus, Theodosius I is a welcome addition since I do have his wife already. Plus I like how its a AE2 and not smaller, ive taught her well.:D

BTW. My favorite coins I have were gifts, even if they weren't what I normally get. I imagine its the same for most, but it seems ancients are not common gifts so its even better.

Oh for sure, I have some not so desirable U.S. coins I got as gifts but I kept them during my purge in 2008 cause they were a gift, plus a hairline scratch or a dip doesnt bother me like it does slabbers ;)

I like this coin, it will be kept.

I like it. You are right that AE2's are nicer coins from Theodosius. Most you ever see are 4's and maybe a 3.

    Happy birthday Mat!

Oh, I thought you was going to say the year of the coin is the same birth year. :D j.k

    Nice coin and happy birthday.

Thanks Guy, I have read the Wiki stuff of him in the past & agree he is very historical, better then the 2 yr emperors.

Nice Coin, Mat. I like the earthen tone.

Getting a coin as a gift from a loved one (Parent, wife or children) is always a nice thing.
(My wife has surprised me so twice).

    Edited to add: Happy Birthday!

    Thanks Eduard!

Going to the Getty Villa in a few, its a museum from j Paul getty that houses his collection of roman/greek stuff. He was a oil tycoon.
