A best buy, now at the US Mint.

The mint has lots of coins for sale. Many of them have very high prices, the platinum, the proof golds, the five ounce ATB coins. Some of each of the gold, silver, Platinum, and clad coins rate a greater percentage of consideration, if not purchase. The First Spouse coins, much maligned, are some of the most splendid design execution in mint history. There, count me as a fan of the First Spouse too. If you purchased all along, bully for you, you are already money ahead. However, some mint customers cannot afford the high priced options, presenting a conundrum: what inexpensive coin could I purchase and get comparable increases in value. The silver ATB quarter set or one ounce Eagle purchase is a great way to find value. However, with more Proof Eagles sold this year than any other, how much could one expect to sell them for in an oversold market. Remember 90's baseball cards. Ouch, you could use them as bird cage liner and it'd be cheaper than a newspaper, so massive were the quantities. But I digress. So to the point.
There is one CHEAP option, currently almost if not THE least expensive option at the mint. It is the three coin set. Let me draw a comparison. During the first year of the Presidential Proof issues, they sold what was called a Signature Proof Presidential Dollar. It's own binder, a faux signature, very well done. But....it was fifteen dollars. So people stayed away in droves. Some did sell, though. And those who purchased now see some of those issues in the thousands of dollars at high grading levels.
I believe the three coin sets to have comparably produced coins. I have seen what I could only call DMPL examples amongst my shipments....not all, but some. The five ounce ATB have also seen DMPL, and they sell for big bucks now. One lucky stiff got what appeared to be a proof on one side, along with the burnished look from the 2005 coin uncirculated series. Very lovely. If you order two of the three coin sets, you can almost be sure to get a near DMPL, and that, folks is a big bang for fifteen or thirty dollars. And you get another proof and uncirculated coin to boot. Now that's value, IMHO. So before you sink nearly a hundred in one silver coin, or you buy a complete uncirculated clad set for thirty dollars, consider buying one or two of the three coin sets. Rest assured you will love the look of the uncirculated coins in this set and will want to buy all of the series as they are released.
