I've decided to buy some sort of a 1909 cent before 2009 because of my belief that the prices of these coins will skyrocket that year. I was wondering which of these coins value will increase the most in 2009 and the future. I want to buy the coin that is semi expensive now, but in the future, it will be considered an expensive coin, and then i wouldnt be able to buy it I have about 150 dollars to spend so, here are my choices: 1909 MS 65 R 1909 VDB MS65 R 1909 S f12-f15 1909 S over horizontal S F12 thanks monkeyman
My opinion would be the MS-65R 09. Get it slabbed, PCGS. Thats like a bluechip stock, but, may see a downturn after the 2009 craziness thins. Your circ 09-s will see less movement, but will retain more of it's value when prices drop. The general rule will stay the same, buy the best quality you can afford, always . Funny, I have both NGC and PCGS 66 Red's, I think NGC is a little less strict on the color for a full red designation, and that shows in the prices. PCGS is the way to go. IMHO
why the 09 instead of the 09 vdb? okay, right now its 1 vote 09 VDB MS 65 R 1 vote 09 MS 65 R thanks for the help guys
So many more of the 09-VDB's were saved, the 09 is much harder to find in full gem, but the price is opposite, the 09 is actually less money, and a harder to find coin. What is the better investment? okay, right now its 1 vote 09 VDB MS 65 R 1 vote 09 MS 65 R thanks for the help guys[/quote]
I would try to get the 1909-S. If you get that chances are that you will also be able to find a 1909 VDB and a 1909 for a pretty good price and then you will have 3!! Speedy
I'll have to agree with Speedy on this one. I'd buy the 09-S right now and get the other ones later for the same reasons Arizona Jack mentioned, its value may move up very little but will have a better chance of staying up.
I would tend to agree, especially if the Lincoln series ends after the 2009 issues. Within a few years I would not be surprised if the fervor with which the Lincolns are collected may begin a slight decline as they disappear from circulation. And remember this about bluechips, they tend to retain their value very well, but don't normally provide a great return on investment.
? Kinda like what happened to the Washington/eagle quarters? Nope, they'll go up and continue to go up, especially if they redesign the coin.
By bluechip, I meant a 1st year of issue AND a PCGS MS-65 Red combination. The 09-s is also a blue chip obviously.
I've recently acquired 3-09 vdb's, 2-09 s', and a 09. for the same reasons. The 1909 100 year annivesary will bring a change in design of these cents and an increase in the desireability and worth of the first coins of the set. Of course I should buy a 09 SVDB soon so I don't get too caught up in the upswing of prices. I also think that this will also bring an interest in Indian Head 1909 & 1909 S cents. Then maybe that interest willspread down the years of the small copper cents.
