A 1836 Half Dime

    Is not a nickel an 1836 silver capped bust half dime looks like vg likely details due to enviro damage

    That's a capped bust half dime. Those were minted from 1829-1827 and designed by William Kneass.

    Be professional, call the coin a Half Dime. "Nickels" contain nickel-metal, except the 1942-45 War Nickels; I've never heard them called anything but nickels, since the regular Jefferson type was minted both before and after.

    This is exactly why I came here cause I am a total newbie to coins Thank You any idea what the value would be on something like this?

    Looks to be around VG, I'd say about $45-$50.

    Actually 1829-37 I'm sure that was a typo half dimes are in my opinion little gems I love em unlike nickels!! There's a fairly recent thread here post your half dimes with a lot of nice examples
