Hi everyone, Please take a look at this penny,it appears part of the reverse was partial struck on the obverse. Any thoughts?

Very nice pics sir! Kind of hard to tell in the pic, but one possibility could be a clashed die. Would really have to see the coin to be sure.

Thanks N.D I have a good scanner. What is a clashed die?

When the dies hit together without a planchet between them it causes the dies to leave the impression on each other. Since multiple dies are used, it is quite possible for only one side to exhibit this feature.

Have to agree - looks like a die clash.

Ditto on the die-clash. This type of die-clash is sometimes refered to as a "jailhouse lincoln" or "prisoner cent", as the more pronounced examples make Lincoln appear to be behind bars.

Here's a nice strong example currently for sale on ebay.

    Fun coin :)
