Hey everyone, I found this quarter recently and I was wondering if its worth anything. Of note is that all around the edge it is perfectly flat without the rough ridges or whatever they are called. I put the coin next to a non error for comparison. Was told to post this here as well as the whats it worth section.
It is struck about 10% off center. I would guess you could get $40-$50 for it, maybe a little more if you found a big state quarter error collector.
Wow, thanks for the warm welcomes everyone! I'm pretty excited, I didn't think my find was very impressive, sort of figured everyone would be like "Ive seen better, $5". lol Anyways, $40-$50 is great, a lot more than I would have expected. I did however find this link on the web (hope outside linking is fine, I didn't see anything in the rules) http://koinpro.tripod.com/Articles/finding_states_quarters_errorsa_.htm if you scroll about 3/4 of the way down you will find a very similarly struck 2000-D Massachusetts that the guy says is worth $125-$200. Is that a huge overestimate or would you agree with CashDude's estimate a lot more? Thanks again, I hope to become a regular around here.
Ok, I might. I think I will wait a while though as seeing all the responses has made me feel like I have something special. I may just hang on to it for a while and see what else I can find around. The value will only go up right? A few months ago before I found out about silver in coins I sold a bunch of random mercury dimes and other pre 65 coins for dirt cheap, I'm really hating myself now. This is the only coin I own that's of value, so I feel like I should keep it for the time being. I've seen 1/2lb's of pre 65 coin lots on eBay for like $150-$160 though, should I try and sell this for that and buy a lot? At the current silver rate its only around $20 more than the bullion's worth, and since silver keeps going up is it worth it? They say they are un-searched but for some reason I doubt it. Edit: I think $50ish is actually more correct though. I did some eBay looking and found this http://cgi.ebay.com/Error-Coin-Off-...mQQptZCoins_US_Individual?hash=item4837c15b18 most of the off center quarters are going between $40-$100
That article is from when the state quarters first came out and were selling for ridiculous amounts. There is a coin on e--y identical to yours with BIN $55 which is where I got my estimate.
Yeah I looked around and found that out. $50 is still pretty awesome for a 25c quarter if you ask me. Thanks for the info it was really helpful.
