    I have 5 1997 Proof sets and 2 -1997 Silver Proof sets-
The 1 Cent coins on the Silver Proof sets show a circular image below the monument on the reverse on both coins. It looks to me like this is under the actual image, so is it a planchet error? Just a bad aging or toning problem? Or just something that I should know about but haven't experienced yet?
I've attached photos, but am still working out problems with photographing coins in plastic folders.

My guess would be that it is haze on the coins. Proofs are known for developing this.

I have a few of each also and ran downstairs to look at them. Nothing at all like that on mine. Wonder if that was there from the Mint or just started to form. Did you just buy them recently or have you had them for a while?

I bought directly from the mint. I don't think haze would take a circular form.

But it does, it's quite common actually.

    Shows my lack of experience.
