I have no idea what would cause this, but I do want to see what everyone else has to say about this.

Stack them on top of each other and show me a pic. Cause when I measure them on my screen, both the cents are the same size and the dime is smaller. ;)

Is the rim raised? Could have been "tapped" all the way around to make it smaller like people do when the make coin rings.

From what I see on the rims of the 1957, I think this coin used to be part of an encasement. Youknow, one of those good luck things, an aluminum ring around a coin. they are assembledand then the outer aluminum ring is struck in a press to create the design on it. The pressure of the strike forces the ring inward against to coin compressing it and "locking" the coin into the ring. (This can result in a slight reduction in the diameter of the coin.) If you look at the edge of the cent you will probably find it to be slightly deformed. Sometimes the dies striking the ring also make contact with the rim of the coin as well.

I also think you should retake the photo with the cents stacked. From what I see is I can not see clearly any difference. May not be an error at all.
Then again does diets work on coins?:smile

I agree with Conder101. An encased or "lucky token" cent. These are very common in the late 1950's.

I agree, especially with the finning around the rim.
