Up until the 80's mint marks were punched by hand into the dies. That is why the placement can vary and also why there are so many repunched mint mark varieties.
Hey im sorry to butt in on this thread but today i found a 1958 lincoln penny that appears to have two sets of words on the obverse for " in god we trust" and "liberty" it looks like complete seperation. I can even see it without a loupe
You need to start your own separate thread. Pictures are needed in order for us to see your issue. It could be a Doubled Die variety. Name your thread..
