Another old man newbie question. I search ebay a lot for circulated silver coins. There is a ton of late date frosted proof 90% silver quarters of many themes posted, as I am sure you know. They go for around $5-$7 most of the time it seems. Sure are Purdy coins. Hits my bling button. What do you think about these? Are they worth messing with? Thanks. Mike in Missouri

Unless you're buying them at close to spot and truly enjoying them for the designs and enjoyment you get from ownership I'd pass. They'll never be worth much more than that barring any conditional rarities as the mintages are high and it's not like attrition is a factor.

That being said I've assembled 3 sets (actually need to work on a 4th now) with my kids of silver proof state quarters and we've stuck them in a standard cardboard album. We've had fun with it and have been working on the ATB quarters in silver and clad now. We've been filling albums of the clads we pull from circulation as it's a cheap fun way to get the kids interested and excited in numismatics.

I tend to agree with you on the "bling" factor. Since they're affordable and attractive, why not mess with 'em? Go for it, I say.

As for being worth messing with, in terms of future profit very likely not but in terms of an affordable enjoyable set absolutely

Thanks for the input everyone. I think I have decided to add some of the new cameo silver quarters to the collection just for the enjoyment of it. They are indeed attractive. Maybe they will be worth more when silver reaches $200 an ounce like they advertise on TV. LOL LOL. Mike in Missouri

Any ideas on where is the best place to purchase cameo proof silver quarters? I am guessing ebay.

There are tons of them on eBay, and if you shop patiently you can get them pretty close to silver spot price. Today, that's about $3 per coin, or $15 per set. Actually, it looks like it's hard to get them for much less than $20/set when you include shipping; if you buy several sets in a lot, it gets cheaper.

I hold out for opportunities to get them at or below spot, but that means I spend a lot of time waiting, and don't get to buy very often.

I just purchased 6 America the Beautiful 90% Silver quarters on ebay for 4.28 each shipped. Best price I have found. He gives you 5.00 off if you buy 3, so I purchased two different orders of 3 each. Man, these are some beautiful coins.
