84 cent no copper & raised lines

    What cuases something like this to happen? Raised lines all over the reverse??? Very small traces of copper.

    Looks like corrosion, some people put pennies under plants, or car batteries, the idea is to have the copper dissolve. The raised line were probably scratches that grease or crud in them that protected the copper for a time.

    Hi Wes,

    Those lines are very straight and I would think grease would be more random and less regular in width?

    It does have a corrosion look especially on the rims.?. The lines really have me puzzled though.

    Hard to say. It definitely looks like the copper was removed chemically, as to the raised lines, now that the surfaces have been altered it would be difficult to be sure but one possibility would be heavy die polish lines.

    I guess the rest would just be speculation at best but I am going to lean towards Wes's theory. Thanks :)

    The "C" and "E" do show indication of die cracks. Though the extensive environmental damage makes it hard to confirm and a moot point as far as value goes.
