Hello. Is this an obvious cud, or damage? I wonder because of the reverse. To me, front obvious, reverse, not so sure. Help?
I say it's a nice cud, looks familiar...may have to see if I have one of those! Going to check right now....well, a quick look got me nothing....I really need a better way of organizing my stuff...but that is for another topic!
TY. I believe it is a popular card if there is such a thing because my research found several pictures of the obverse. The other issue is the reverse and it looks like it came from the meant that way but it could be a damaged edge I don't really know.
So sorry did not mean to double post. Meant to add, if it's not obvious, the reverse is exactly aligned with the obverse meaning the damage whatever it is.
The metal that would normally be struck by the reverse die in that area flowed into the area where the piece of the obverse die was missing. this results in a cud on the obverse and a hollow on the reverse.
It's a nice example of a cud, and the reverse appears to support that. When the break occurs on the obverse die, metal flows into the void created by the break. This means that there is insufficient metal to flow into the devices on the reverse in the area between 4 & 5:30. Chris
Awesome CUD, and could very well be, a slightly later strike of, CU-5c-1983P-05. Compare here: http://cuds-on-coins.com/jefferson-nickel-cuds-1983/
Definitly a cud, and a nice one. That cud is probably worth around $50+, very nice example. Here's one I found Coinroll hunting a while back. http://www.treasurenet.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=1029024&d=1406484122 http://www.treasurenet.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=1029025&d=1406484126&thumb=1
Excellent. Thanks all. I don't usually see much talk of reverse or opposite side, so just checking. Found another cool one in same roll, a 47 p that has weird toning issues, but can't tell if maybe someone just tried to polish it. Later tonight. Don't know how to attach from mobile.
That is a biggie! Sweet. I had no idea on value. Don't usually think about selling. Probably just keep for display.
Nice find !!!!! Arnold Margolis used to describe the striking of a cud much like trying to clap (applaud) with only one hand.
