I have a question is there more than just wide and narrow rim types? without S mint mark. Would type A and B be the same as a wide or narrow 1 o r 2 ? 1979
I think with the SBA's there is "wide rim" and Type 1 and type 2 designations. Type 1 and 2 refer to the S on the proofs, 1 being mush S and 2 being a clear S. When your talking A&B type, your referring to the presidential dollars. Position A or Position B, refers to the edge lettering. Have a look at the PCGS site:http://www.pcgs.com/prices/ Hope this helps!
So I found these deep in a collection I bought some years ago from a lady I do not see what they were saying?
I do see where on the coin they have marked type 2 or B the rim is almost touching the 1 is that what they were trying to say? Do you think Sorry P mint if you cant see it.
The "Type 1 and Type 2" only refers to the Proof SBA's and the "S" mint mark. Does not apply to P mint marks.
Put another way, the top photo is the run-of-the-mill 1979-P SBA. The lower one is the "near date" or "wide rim", which is two different descriptions for the same thing. Incidentally, ALL 1980 and 1981 SBA's are like the second 1979, the rarer one.
The second appears to be a wide rim or "near date" better photo would be good. This is only applicable to the 1979 p sba. Type I & Type II, refer to the proof sba coins of 1979 s and the 1981 s Mint marks. Incidently the type I & I I, of 79 & 81 are not exclusive to the sba, but you will find the two types on all of the coins. The type I I in both cases normally bring a small premium. I have personally sold the 1981 type I I proof set with all Type I I mint marks for up to 160.00 $. Which is significantly more than a 4 $ type I.
