and then Learning Happens. Since this post I have been in a few Educational threads & have determined my co-worker has a fake. He's only out the cost of 2 packs of smokes he traded it for.
Originally I thought it had just been thoroughly cleaned - it popped in my head tonight & I asked if I could have another look. The edge is wrong.
I see fake edges everywhere now @Collecting Nut - not sure any of the morgans I've actually held are genuine.
I'm sure most of them were real. It takes years to learn the difference and looking at a photo is even more difficult. We just give our opinions based on our level of understanding and what can be seen in a photo. Some fakes scream FAKE hike others fool us. Hang in there.
If it's fake I think it's a very good fake, because I don't see anything wrong with the coin at all that would make me think it's not real.
Photos are awfully blurry... hard to give a proper response when half the coin’s details don’t show. Try to get better lighting and put your camera on some sort of stand to prevent shaking when the photo is taken.
kinda looks good to what I know but a bad angle and fuzzy images. also, turn OFF the cell phone flash. Take the image from DIRECTLY ABOVE. if not enough light, then go to a room with enough light. edit: lol Seattlite86 beat me to it as I was typing.
It does look nice - but the edge is a ringer for the pic of counterfeit reeding - I'm just not sure..
@Tlberg Can you take a picture of the reeding and not of a 61 Franklin? and can you take better pictures overall ?? anyone have a pic of a 1878 S reeding ? I have an 1879 S but not at my reach at the moment for comparison.
Researching and found this old thread : https://www.cointalk.com/threads/fake-morgan-silver-dollar.257117/ The reeding on the '78 I'm checking is identical to this OPs 1882
